Why we entered the war.

The main reason America joined the war in Vietnam was to prevent thespreading of communism. In the heat of the Cold War, no pun intended, America could not afford to have yet another communist country against us.

At this time in the Cold War, the U.S. felt like it was starting to lose to the Soviets. We believed that if the Soviet Union was able to take Vietnam, we would surely be in trouble. Also, the capitalist country of South Vietnam was losing the war against the NVA so America felt that it was their responsibilty to go help a fellow capitalist country in need. If the South Vietnamise people were to lose their country, we would first off have no trade to South Asia and that would be just another country that fell victim to communsim.
